Social Media Is Shaping Identity Design
Recently, I have been interested how we as designers address the challenges encountered in our day to day operations. When our client approaches us with a new project, whether it be a simple logo or new identity, we suddenly take on a great responsibility to provide the best possible solution for their business.
A logo needs to provide flexibility, from the small Instagram circle used to represent the business on a smart phone or a large scale billboard advertisement. It must also adapt to vertical and horizontal applications for instance the logo may be applied to a company vehicle, business card, website and social media accounts.
Bold, clean and minimalistic are a few of the words I use to describe many of these applications. Some great examples of this are the Spotify, Pinterest and Facebook. This is why I believe it is essential to have a flexible logo. Consider incorporating a picture mark and logotype that look great together and when used individually. Our very own River Design logo is a perfect example of this, for all of our social media accounts we choose to use the simple picture mark and for our website or other collateral we have the flexibility to use either the horizontal or vertical variants. This creates a flexible logo and places us in a better position to approach different scenarios.
No matter your opinion social media is well embedded into our culture. As Graphic Designers we have the ultimate responsibility of providing solutions for the challenges that may arise when approaching new projects.
